A minor girl who was forced to work as a domestic help in Bihar was rescued by the Delhi Commission of Women (DCW). The girl was working in the house of a software engineering near Dwarka Mod area.

DCW received a call from a woman on the 181 helpline number who informed that she often hears a girl cry every day in her neighbourhood. The complainant managed to talk to the girl who informed her that she is forced to work in the house and that her employers severely beat her.

On receiving the complaint, DCW constituted a team and sent it to the house. On arrival, the team was shocked to know that the girl was only 10 years old and had been working as a house help at the employer's place for over five months. The girl informed that she was not allowed to contact her parents and was not given food properly.

"I am deeply disturbed with the growing incidences of abuse with minors. I fail to understand how so-called educated and well-off people treat children who are poor. Don't they have any humanity? I appeal to all people to inform our helpline of any wrongdoings occurring around them so that we can take action," said Swati Maliwal, Chief, Delhi Commission for Women.

The girl was in a pathetic condition and started crying while narrating her story to the DCW team. She requested to be taken away, but when the DCW team tried to rescue the girl, her employer created a huge ruckus. DCW team then informed the Delhi Police and the girl was rescued with their help.

The girl was taken to Uttam Nagar police station where an FIR was registered on statements of the girl under relevant sections of Juvenile Justice Act. The minor victim was then taken to the hospital for medical examination. The girl was presented before CWC who has sent the girl to a shelter home.
