In order to reform and revamp the anganwadi centres, the Delhi government on Friday concluded a five-day training for 320 supervisors in Early Childhood Education (ECE). The training was conducted by experts from NGO Pratham and Jamia Millia Islamia University.

The training will now be followed by two weeks on-the-job practice sessions, which will be followed by two days of evaluation and feedback module.

"The supervisors, after completing the module, would be fully equipped to impart the same training to their anganwadi Workers. Using this cascade model all 10,000 anganwadi workers would be trained by the end of September," Delhi government said in a statement.

"The week-long training saw nearly 100 per cent enthusiastic attendance by the supervisors. They expressed the view that the training was effective and much needed in building their capacity as supervisors," it added.

Each supervisor is responsible for functioning of about 25 anganwadis. The training was held at eight venues across Delhi. Earlier in the month, also as a part of anganwadi reforms, Delhi government substantially increased the payout of the anganwadi workers.

From an earlier honorarium of Rs 5,000 per month, the government more than doubled it to Rs 10,678 per month.
