The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday protested outside civic centre, demanding the resignation of BJP-led North MCD Mayor Preety Aggarwal.

Attacking the BJP-led municipal corporation, AAP leaders demanded Aggarwal's resignation so that an "independent" probe can be conducted.

The AAP earlier had stated that Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari must "apologise" to the public at large for such an act by its mayor leading the corporation.

The BJP which has been ruling the municipal corporations for over a decade, fearing anti-incumbency, had fielded all new faces to its 272 wards in the municipal polls held last April.

Aggarwal had drawn flak from people and the media recently when she was caught in a video purportedly telling her aide not to talk about the factory in Bawana where 17 workers were killed in a fire.

However, in a counter attack, Aggarwal held a press met at the civic body headquarters as well where refuting the allegations as "baseless", she said that the AAP is raising this issue only to divert attention from core issues of corruption against its own leaders.

"The allegations are baseless. I have no role in clearing of tenders which comes under the executive wing. I am ready for any kind of investigation. The AAP is making a hue and cry only to mislead people and divert their attention from charges of corruption against its own leaders," said Aggarwal.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP General Secretary Ravinder Gupta too coming to the mayor's rescue refuted the allegations.

"The AAP has attempted to level baseless allegations of corruption against the mayor with an intent to divert public attention from the concrete allegations of corruption against Delhi government minister Satyendra Jain," said Gupta.

"BJP workers' demonstrations demanding Jain's dismissal are putting public pressure on AAP," he said.
