A 30-year-old man's throat was slit after he tried to intervene in an ongoing fight between two people over urinating in the open in northeast Delhi's New Usmanpur area in the wee hours of Friday. Waseem was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. No arrests have been made so far.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 4.30 am when the deceased, Waseem, was on his way to work in an auto-rickshaw.

"The deceased, who was in the shared auto, saw the two youths fighting over public urination. One of them was angry as the other person urinated in front of the place where he was to sleep. Waseem was trying to calm them when he was attacked," said a police officer.

Before fleeing, the accused also took away the bag of the man identified as Varun, who was accused of peeing in the open.

Varun told the police that he was unaware that someone sleeps at the place where he was urinating, as the open area was next to a dump yard. He had apologised many times but the man started arguing and followed him.

The police suspect that the accused were in an intoxicated state and could be eyeing to snatch the bag before attacking him and Waseem. The doctors at the GTB Hospital informed Waseem's family, who live in Loni. His family stated that it was not the first time he was trying to stop a fight and that he was always helpful to people.

Police have registered a case of murder and have formed teams to search for the criminals. They are also scanning the CCTV cameras from the area to ascertain his identity.
