India have a tendency to keep it till late during a run-chase, especially when Mahendra Singh Dhoni is in control of the situation. But, with the pitches in England getting flatter and scores of 340 and above being scored consistently by the drop of a hat, as seen in the recent England-Pakistan ODIs, India may have to alter their plans in the middle overs so as to not find it difficult at the death.

Head coach Ravi Shastri said here on Tuesday: "Our mantra will be to be flexible, and be flexible according to the conditions. Because, England is one country where pitches might be flat but if the overhead conditions change, then you've got to be up with it.

"In any other country, the overhead conditions don't matter that much but in England they do and it differs from venue to venue. In London, it might not make much of a difference but if you go up north, then it does get overcast then you will see things happening, so you have to be ready for that, prepare for that and be prepared to be flexible."

Shastri was also confident that his bowlers would defend high scores despite the conditions. "I would think so, because if you look at it, there are no new bowlers there. This is an experienced unit. These guys have been together for the last 4-5 years, they have bowled as a unit together. They have accomplished what we set out to do in Test match cricket when it came to bowling as a unit and the endeavour will be the same in this World Cup where each one complements each other and keeps up the pressure right through those 50 overs."

'Dhoni contribution massive'

This quadrennial tournament will see Virat Kohli take invaluable tips from the 2011 World Cup-winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and Shastri only talks high of him like he has been in the past.

"Massive, like it has always been," Shastri said on the Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batsman's role. "You don't need to tell him. He is someone who is right there doing exactly what he does. His communication with Virat has been fantastic.

"As a 'keeper, he has shown over the years that there is no one is better than him in this format, not just in taking catches but also inflicting those run-outs or stumping, these are little moments in the game which can change the game on its head and there was no one better than him.

"It is great to see the way he was moving in the IPL especially when he was batting, the footwork, the power with which he was hitting the shots, he will be a big player in this World Cup."
