Going into the five-One-day International (ODI) series between India and West Indies, Virat Kohli will eye a massive personal record.

The Indian skipper, who has 9,779 ODI runs so far to his name, is just 221 runs away from becoming the fifth Indian batsman to enter the club of 10,000 ODI runs. The other Indians to have scored 10,000 or more ODI runs are Sachin Tendulkar (18,426), Sourav Ganguly (11,363), Rahul Dravid (10,889), and MS Dhoni (10,123).

Since India will be playing five ODIs against the West Indies, this series is a huge opportunity for the in-form Kohli to achieve the milestone.

India’s ODI series is scheduled to begin from October 21 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati and that will be followed by the ODIs at Visakhapatnam, Pune, Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram.

The 50-over format will be followed by the three-Twenty20 International (T20I) series and the matches are scheduled to be played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, Ekana International Cricket Stadium, Lucknow and MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

Earlier, Kohli-led India thrashed West Indies 2-0 in the Test series as both the matches ended inside three days and India won by an innings on both the occasions.

At the end of the Test series, according to the ICC Test rankings, Kohli remained the No. 1 Test batsmen while young Indian batsmen Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant made big gains.

Shaw, who led India to victory in the U19 World Cup this year, completed a memorable debut series as he finished the Hyderabad Test in 60th place, a gain of 13 slots after knocks of 70 and 33 not out. Shaw had entered the rankings in 73rd place after a century on debut.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Pant also continued his upward climb as his knock of 92 saw him gain 23 places to reach 62nd position. The Delhi batsman had started the series in 111th position and would be deriving satisfaction from the rankings gain after missing centuries in successive Tests, also dismissed for 92 in the opening match in Rajkot.
