Afghanistan scripted history as they won their maiden Test with Rashid Khan bowling his heart out against Bangladesh in the Test at Chittagong.

Playing their third Test and first against Bangladesh, Afghanistan won by 224 runs on a rain-truncated day 5 on Monday.

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan - who could have saved the match - was out trying to cut a short of a length delivery from 20-year-old chinaman bowler Zahir Khan.

Rashid Khan - who took 5 for 55 in the first innings - got into the wicket-taking act picking 11 wickets overall.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was out for 12 and Taikul Islam went for a duck - both leg before. Soumya Sarkar, who needed to bat out four overs with No. 11 Nayeem Hasan, was the last man out for 15 with less than two overs remaining.

Rashid Khan - who became the youngest captain to win a Test - took another three wickets on Sunday before stumps was called with Bangladesh on 136-6, still needing 262 runs. He finished with six for 49 in the second innings. He was also declared the Player of the Match.

At the prize distribution, Rashid said, "We are new to this format, so credit to coaching staff for all their support. Everyone applied themselves well and stuck to the plans. The batsmen batted well in the first innings and youngsters also bowled well. Our focus too will now shift to the T20I series. I would also like to thank Mohammad Nabi. It was his last game and he has helped us a lot. I thank him for his contribution to Afghanistan cricket. I would like to dedicate this Man of the Match award to him".

Bangladesh captain Shakib said, "They deserved this win. It's been a while since we played our last Test match but Afghanistan did well to keep the pressure on us. We need to forget this match soon and concentrate on the T20 series that comes next. They are a good team in T20s too and we will need to keep our focus there".
