No more Kurkure jokes: PepsiCo spends Rs 20 million to delete digs on social media, claims report

According to the reports, over 20,000 Facebook posts, 3,412 Facebook links, 242 YouTube videos, 6 Instagram links, and 562 tweets about Kurkure have been ordered to be deleted.

In order to delete all the social media jokes on Kurkure, PepsiCo reportedly had spent around Rs 20 million. According to a report in Business Standard, PepsiCo India has secured an interim order from the Delhi High Court to delete hundreds of posts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. There were several jokes and theories which were doing round on social media that how Kurkure can catch fire easily, suggesting it contains plastic.

As per the publication, over 20,000 Facebook posts, 3,412 Facebook links, 242 YouTube videos, 6 Instagram links, and 562 tweets about Kurkure have been ordered to be deleted. 

A Facebook spokesperson told the newspaper, "A Facebook spokesperson said: “When governments believe that something on the internet violates their laws, they may contact companies like Facebook and ask us to restrict access to that content. Similarly, we may receive orders to restrict content from courts. If, after careful legal review, we determine the order is valid and enforceable, we might make the content unavailable in the relevant country and notify people who try to access it why it is restricted."

Earlier, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev sought High Court's help in order to remove digs againt his brand. 

The Delhi High Court had directed social media sites Facebook, Google and YouTube to take down a video blog which allegedly disparages the 'atta' made and marketed by Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurved.

The interim order was given by Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw who directed the three social media platforms to restrict access to the links and contents of the blog.

The court also issued notices asking them to disclose the identity of the persons in whose name the blog and the urls leading to it, were registered. 

The video had termed as rubber the atta made by the two brands, Patanjali told the court in its plea.
