IRCTC to get a new name, Railways will select one from 700 options

The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Limited (IRCTC) will soon be known by a new name. If a reports from Zee Business is to be believed, IRCTC will get a short and an eye catching name soon. According to the report, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal wants IRCTC to change its name as the current one is too long. Goyal reportedly had suggested the officials of Railways to come up with new names which are short and to be easily remebered. 

This should also be noted that the a name change of a website will happen for the first time ever in Railways. 

Earlier, at the start of 2018, IRCTC had come up with a contest 'Coin a new name' on mygov.in portal. Under the contest, IRCTC has asked the participants to suggest a new name for the website. The report said that IRCTC had received around 1852 options. Out of these options, IRCTC has shortlisted around 700 options, according to a senior official. 

The tentative date of declaration of the result for the contest was July 15th. When asked about the timeline, the official said that the result may be out within the next two months.

Significantly, the winner of the contest will get Rs 1,00,000.

"A clarion call to all our countrymen! Participate in the IRCTC “COIN A NEW NAME” Contest. The best entry attracts a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 /- (INR ONE LAKH)," the IRCTC had said on mygov.in when it first launched the campaign.

Meanwhile, IRCTC has come up with offers and many discounts for its customers. IRCTC is offering attractive discounts on ticket booking through its official website www.irctc.co.in. However, passengers should know that they can't avail the discounts via offline mode.

If a passenger makes a booking via MobiKwik, the company will offer you a 10 per cent discount. Another app, Paytm is also offering a cashback of Rs 100 on ticket bookings through its platform.   

Flipkart's PhonePe is also offering a cashback of Rs 100. Below is the stepwise guide on how you can avail the offer: 

Go to the IRCTC's official or login to its mobile app

Log in using your username and password.

Fill in your travel details.Now, while choosing the the payment mode, choose the e-wallet options.

In wallet category, choose whichever app you would use to make payments and get discounts on your tickets.
