Getting into the skin of the character is the norm for actors. And Varun Dhawan is no different. The young star, who plays a tailor called Mauji in his upcoming film Sui Dhaaga: Made in India, trained hard in the process of cutting and stitching.

Putting his new-honed skills to test, the Gen-Y heartthrob even sewed a shirt for his father David Dhawan on his 68th birthday, which was on August 16. Needless to say, his dad was thrilled when he wore it.

The star son picked a fabric that was colourful and had a summery vibe to it. “I’m not quite as good as a trained personnel, but I have picked up some tailoring skills while filming Sui Dhaaga. My dad thinks I am still a kaccha dhaaga (raw and young), but this shirt proves to him that I am not so raw anymore!” he laughs. This wasn’t the only present that David got though. To make the day special, Varun and his elder brother, filmmaker Rohit Dhawan pulled out all the stops. They gifted their parents a staycation at a five-star hotel in Mumbai. They also hosted a private dinner for their dad.
