The makers of Diljit Dosanjh, Taapsee Pannu and Angad Bedi starrer Soorma have dropped the trailer of the film on Monday. Soorma is a biopic of International Hockey player from India - Sandeep Singh. It chronicles Sandeep's journey from childhood to the time when the Indian Hockey team, under his captaincy, went on to qualify for the 2012 Olympics.
The trailer begins by introducing us to Sandeep in his childhood, who never liked playing hockey, but nevertheless, had some strange connection with the sport. He gets to know that when he his eyes meet those of Harpreet aka Preet (Taapsee Pannu)and he falls in love. Now, Preet happens to be a Hockey player and Sandeep (Diljit) must learn how to play the sport and secure a place in the Indian Hockey team to win over the family of his ldy love.
But as destiny would have it, Sandeep gets shot by a bullet on his waist, just before he could win a medal for the country in the year 2006. The mishap leaves his lower body paralysed and it is said that he'll never be able to walk again. Even the love of his life, apparently, abandons him.
What follows is an awe-inspiring journey of hard work and determination of the man who goes on to overcome his setbacks to find his way to the Hockey field once again. He makes his jaw-dropping comeback in 2008 and under his captaincy, India goes on to win the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in 2009. The team also qualified for the 2012 Olympics.
Going by the trailer, Soorma happens to be Diljit Dosanjh's fourth Hindi film and the Punjabi hearthrob doesn't fail to impress us once again. Right from looking his part physically, to nailing the crests and troughs of emotions, Diljit seems to have moulded himself pretty well into his character.
Taapsee Pannu on the other hand, in the role of a woman Hockey player- Harpreet, too packs a punch. It is her character that gives a direction to Sandeep's life. From the little that we see of her in the trailer, the actress surely has managed to get the mannerisms of a Hockey player as well as a woman in love, right.
Angad Bedi too makes a few appearances in the Soorma trailer. He plays Diljit's brother in the film, who later goes on to train him as well. It's also heartening to see Vijay Raaz (who has mostly been exploited in Bollywood films in comic characters) after quite sometime and in a role, which we're hoping, is worthy of his acting chops.
