'KBC 12': Amitabh Bachchan talks about the time Javed Akhtar cast him in 'Zanjeer' despite back-to-back flops

'Kaun Banega Crorepati 12's recent episode took a surprising turn as the host of the show Amitabh Bachchan spoke about a chapter of his life. Big B shared about a time when Javed Akhtar picked the megastar for a movie when he was delivering back-to-back flops.

Amitabh Bachchan was on the hot seat with contestant Saurabh Kumar. An Air Traffic Controller at Airports Authority of India, Kumar was born and brought up in Bihar but is currently residing in Delhi.

In the middle of the game, Big B went on to talk about an incident in his life that felt strange to him back then - about why Javed Akhtar cast him for the movie 'Zanjeer' despite the actor giving back-to-back flops.

Curious to know the answer, Amitabh Bachchan said he asked 'Javed saab', who said that he was impressed with one of Big B's fight sequences in the movie 'Bombay To Goa'.

The scene mentioned was when the character played by senior Bachchan was chewing a gum before the action scene, got punched, stood back and continued chewing his gum.

"I still don't understand the connection between that scene and me bagging 'Zanjeer'," confessed Amitabh Bachchan on the show.

Ironically, 'Zanjeer' has become one of the iconic movies featuring Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role. The film was also remade in Bollywood itself with Ram Charan in the lead role and Priyanka Chopra as the female lead.

Meanwhile, Saurabh quit 'KBC 12', taking home Rs. 25 lakhs. Oshin Johari, a civil service aspirant from Madhya Pradesh, was the next contestant to be on the 'hot seat' of 'KBC 12' opposite Amitabh Bachchan. She ended up calling Amitabh Bachchan an 'angel' on the show.
