A police hunt is under way for a man in connection with the alleged murder of a woman.

Somamma, 55, was found dead with her throat slit at her son’s house on Smashana Road in Uttarahalli. She was last seen with her distant relative, Manjunath, who later went missing.

Police were suspecting that Manjunath had tried to rape the woman before killing her.

The incident came to light when autorickshaw driver Honnalinge Gowda, Somamma’s son, returned home around 9.30 pm on Saturday.

He found his mother lying dead in a pool of blood and informed the police.

“The motive of the murder will be revealed after we catch the absconding Manjunath. We are making all efforts to catch him,” inspector Narasimha Reddy of the Subramanyapura police station said.

Earlier in the evening, Gowda had brought Manjunath, a resident of Bindiganavile in Mandya district, home. The latter had telephoned Gowda, saying he was in the city, following which the auto driver picked him up.

After dropping off Manjunath at his home around 6.30 pm, Gowda went to work.

Somamma had been with Gowda for the past 20 days, after her pregnant daughter-in-law had gone to her parents’ place for delivery.

Police said they were waiting for the post-mortem examination report.
