Fiancé killer and advocate S Shubha, on Monday, filed an appeal before the high court of Karnataka, challenging the life sentence awarded to her by a fast-track court.

The fast-track court 17 had on Wednesday sentenced four convicts, including Shubha and her boyfriend, for life. They were earlier pronounced guilty of murdering her fiancé for three days, Intel engineer BV Girish, on December 3, 2003.

In the appeal submitted through her advocate CV Nagesh, Shubha said that she was not involved in the murder and she had nothing to do with Girish’s murder. She prayed the court to suspend the fast-track court’s verdict. The convict also requested the court
for bail.

The court accepted the appeal, which would likely come up for hearing either on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Besides Shubha, her boyfriend Arun Verma, his cousin Dinakar alias Dinesh, and Venkatesh were also awarded life term by the fast-track court. They were also slapped a penalty of Rs50,000 each, defaulting which they would spend another 10 months in jail.
Shubha was sentenced to an additional three-year imprisonment for  destroying evidence and providing false information with an intention to protect the other culprits. She was asked to pay a penalty of Rs25,000 for this offence.
