In another student-friendly project, the Bangalore University launched its mid-day meal scheme for students at its Jnana Bharathi campus on Wednesday.

Under this project, the students will get mid-day meal at Rs3 and staff at Rs10, in the campus. The Akshaya Patra Foundation is taking the responsibility of providing food for the university students.

Students will get nutritious food every day from this academic year. To avoid misuse of the service, the university has decided to provide ID cards to students who can avail the facility. Students residing in hostels will not be eligible for the facility. This project is mainly aimed at helping students from the rural areas. There is no canteen at Jnana Bharathi campus and students find it hard to get food every day.

Sri Shivakumara Swamiji, seer of Siddaganga Math, inaugurated the project. A few months ago, the university V-C Dr N Prabhu Dev had proposed to provide mid-day meal to students. The proposal was approved by both academic council and syndicate members.
