Bangalore lawyers lash out against police, media

The police are considering filing cases against advocates for making provocative speeches at the City Civil Court complex on Friday.

Addressing a large gathering of advocates, senior advocate Pramila Nesargi said people should fear the men and women in black coats.

She advised the advocates to retaliate if the police beat them with batons.

She also called on the advocates to file cases of defamation and damaging property against the police in the March 2 incident. She said the cases should be so strong that the police should not be able to pay the defamation amount even if they sell their property.

Further, the senior advocate said the advocates should not allow policemen and mediapersons to enter the court premises. She said the protests would continue until the police and media apologised to the legal fraternity.

Advocates from other districts too made provocative speeches.

The police officials who were deployed on and around the City Civil Court premises said they had recorded the advocates’ entire programme on camera.

A senior police officer said they had proof that Nesargi delivered a provocative speech and used foul language against the police, adding that a case might be filed against her.

The police officer added that senior advocates should be advising their juniors to refrain from aggression, but some of them were encouraging their juniors.
