Bangalore enginering student kills self in front of girlfriend

A 23-year-old student from Manipur hanged himself to death on Thursday in front of his girl friend at his house in SG Palya.

The deceased has been identified as Jackio Heisnam Singh, a resident of SG Palya in Venkateshwara Layout and a native of Imphal. He was a second-year student at Bangalore College of Engineering and Technology in Chandapura.

Police said Singh was unhappy as the girl whom he was in love with was not answering his phone calls for a week. On Thursday, Singh and the girl went to Brigade Road where they ate and drank.

They later headed to Singh’s house. While Singh’s roommates were in the hall, the duo went to Singh’s room. An argument ensued, after which Singh threatened to commit suicide.

The girl, presuming that it was an empty threat, asked him to go ahead. Singh tied the rope around the ceiling fan, put his head in the noose and hanged himself. When the girl screamed for help, Singh’s roommates rushed in and took him to St John’s Hospital.

However, he died before he reached the hospital. Singh’s body is being kept at Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem, which will be held on Saturday after his parents arrive.
