An assistant manager of a nationalised bank was crushed under the wheels of a BMTC bus near the Ulsoorgate traffic police station.

Reportedly,  the victim HY Mahesh was  on his way to lodge a complaint with the lok ayukta on Monday.

The 46-year-old was a native of Channarayapattana residing in Hanumanthanagar. Mahesh was an employee of  State Bank of India, attached to St Mark’s Road.

According to the police, the accident happened around 9.50 am. The bus, heading towards Tindlu from City Market, knocked down Mahesh and ran over him.

The bus driver reportedly came to know of the incident only after onlookers raised a hue and cry. Mahesh died instantly. The BMTC driver abandoned the bus at the traffic police station and fled.

Venkatesh, a colleague of the deceased man, said Mahesh had rung him up in the morning to inform that he would be reporting at the bank only after lodging a complaint with the lok ayukta. Mahesh, however, did not specify the complaint.

Police said they had not found any documents with Mahesh.

Mahesh was an advocate of Gandhigiri, as depicted in a popular Hindi movie. He had presented roses to several government officials whom he  believed to be corrupt.

He leaves behind two daughters, Namitha, an engineering student, and Namratha, a PUC student.

Venkatesh added that Mahesh was transferred to Bangalore a few years ago, as he was keen on imparting better education to his children.
