The two hitmen commissioned by gangster ‘Hebettu’ Manja to target realtor Dayananda Pai were following him on a motorcycle from near Mount Carmel College to Basavanagudi flyover where he was shot at on October 16.

This was revealed by Vighnesh of Mallathahalli, one of the attackers who is in police custody thanks to the CCTV footages installed at traffic junctions from Chalukya Circle to Basavanagudi.

The other attacker probably fled to another state, Basavanagudi police said, adding that a search was under way to arrest him too.

Pai’s car received two bullets fired by the attackers from a country-made pistol. Ballistic experts from the Forensic Science Lab (FSL) have confirmed this.
Police are investigating the source of fire arms to the assailants.

The attackers’ bank accounts will be examined to check whether they were getting cash from abroad.

Soon after the attack on Pai, the Shimoga-based Manja, who is said to be living in Dubai, claimed that he had orchestrated the attack just to give him a strong message.
He told a channel that he had a dispute with Pai over a piece of land near Bengaluru International Airport in Devanahalli.

Police commissioner BG Jyothi Prakash Mirji confirmed that Pai had received two threat calls from a person, who introduced himself as Manja, just minutes before the attack.
