At a time when Patidar reservation agitation spearhead Hardik Patel is under attack for allegedly turning the agitation into a private stir, two Patidar organisations have come out in his favour, and said that the community should support him.

"The reservation issue is a burning one for the Patidar community. Not all Patidars are prosperous. There are many farmers, traders and others, who need to be brought under reservation. The reservation struggle is reasonable and justified. The Kadva Patidar Parivar Trust welcomes the efforts of Hardik and (SPG leader) Lalji Patel," Bhikhubhai Patel, president of the social and educational body said.

Patel said that in a Chintan Shibir organised to know the community's views on reservation, 92 per cent of the 2,000 respondents had supported reservation.

Without naming anyone, Patel said that community elders should provide support and guidance to Hardik and Lalji Patel. He, however, asked Hardik not to let success get into his head, and to seek elders' counsel.

Coming down heavily on use of social and religious organisations for political purposes, he said, "They must realise that it is leading to differences in the community," he said, referring to the Vishw Umiya Foundation, which had criticised Hardik.

While refusing to name any of its office bearers, he said that elders must look at the "community's interest, rather than their own political agendas".

Jagdish Patel, president of Patidar Youth Foundation, too came out in support of Hardik, saying the reason his rallies attracted huge crowds was because the community wanted reservation.

"However, I must say that people are not with Hardik or Lalji – they are with the demand. If Hardik fails or misleads, another Hardik will take his place," Jagdish Patel said.

Taking on Vishw Umiya Foundation, Jagdish Patel said that Patidars are not with its office bearers RP Patel and CK Patel. He also pointed out that the Foundation was set up just four months ago.

Last week, RP Patel and CK Patel had accused Hardik of making the Patidar reservation agitation into a private stir. On Sunday, the Patidar Youth Brigade had levelled the same allegation against Hardik.
