Gunotsav ends, CM Vijay Rupani says it has led to lower dropouts

Gujarat Chief minister Vijay Rupani visited Valsad on day 2 of Gunotsav. Giving credit to Gunotsav, he said, “The drop out ratio has been dipped and is at 1.5% now. The literacy rate is 70%.”

The two-day ambitious programme of annual evaluation of government primary schools concluded on Saturday with the Chief Minister announcing a dip in drop-out ratio. The eighth edition of Gunotsav, that aims to assess the quality of education in government primary schools had participation from more than 54 lakh students of 32780 primary government schools, 863 grant-in-aid schools and 804 ashram shalas.

Gujarat Chief minister Vijay Rupani visited Valsad on day 2 of Gunotsav. Giving credit to Gunotsav, he said, “The drop out ratio has been dipped and is at 1.5% now. The literacy rate is 70%.”

Agriculture minister RC Faldu chose Navapura prathmik shala in Sanand, which was rated C grade last year in terms of academic performance on Saturday. 

Of the 119 schools in Sanand taluka, 6 schools had got grade C last year and of the six, the minister chose to visit Navapura prathmik shala which has close to 400 students and 12 teachers. 

The minister evaluated the students in comprehension in English, Gujarati, Mathematics, Social Science, general knowledge, reading and handwriting skills and held meetings with the school management committee members and villagers.

While some students were able to give right answers, there were a few who could not solve Math sums. Said Vaishali Joshi, Block Resource Centre coordinator, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, “A science project made by some students out of waste amused the minister. The students had made battery operated bike using empty plastic bottles.”
