The Gujarat High Court on Thursday reserved an order on a PIL filed by former IPS officer Rahul Sharma demanding a full-time and regular director general of police (DGP) in Gujarat.
The order was reserved till December 12.
The court reserved the order after the Election Commission submitted that it had got three names from the state government for appointment as in-charge DGP. It further submitted that the appointment of the new in-charge DGP was done on basis of these names.
Meanwhile, the government had submitted that the process of appointing DGP is a long one and that a new DGP will be appointed once a new government is formed. It should be noted that the government had earlier submitted that it cannot make an appointment of a regular DGP at this juncture.
The state does not have a fulltime DGP since April 15, 2016, when PP Pandey was given the charge of the post. Sharma had argued that the government was not appointing a regular DGP despite having six officers in the rank.
