BJP's national president Amit Shah on Sunday alleged that Congress was trying to appease minority by playing votebank politics ahead of the second phase of Assembly polls in Gujarat. Talking to mediapersons at BJP's Gujarat headquarters Shri Kamalam, Shah said that by raising issue of Gujarat riots of 2002, Congress is trying to appease minorities.

Shah said, "When a few days are left for the second phase polls in Gujarat, Congress is playing votebank politics through appeasement. Mumbai Congress vice-president and their senior leader Charan Singh said that PM Narendra Modi should seek apology of Muslim community for Gujarat riots of 2002 from Jama Masjid. Many Congress sponsored NGOs had made allegations over Narendra Modi by tweaking the reality at that time but could not succeed as the Supreme Court withheld those charges. Now, when you ask PM to seek apology for 2002 riots, no greater example to that there can be for appeasement politics."

Shah added, "Jignesh Mevani, who recognises himself as Dalit leader and is an independent candidate from Vadgam in Banaskantha accepts funds from anti-national outfit like PFI. The outfit is believed to be preparing millitants for ISIS and one of their worker Abdul Zalil was nabbed by NIA. Congress knew this so did not gave ticket to Jignesh Mevani but declared their support and did not field any candidate against him."

The BJP chief also took the potshot at Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, former vice-president Hamid Ansari and former PM Manmohan Singh for holding secret meeting with Pakistani high commissioner. He said that when Gujarat polls were being held, the Congress leaders' meeting with Pakistani officials without informing Indian government was condemnable act.

Amit Shah, concluding his address to media person said, "People of this nation have dejected Congress for their negative ideology and that will keep happening everywhere. I would make an appeal to voters of Gujarat that they should take these incidents in cognizance and should understand the whole issue. On the other side, the people of Gujarat also should notice that ever since BJP came in power, the state is peaceful, safe and happy. Gujarat is border state and safety of this state is the issue of concern for all."
