Gujarat: 50% seats in ME, M.Pharm vacant

ACPC data reveals of 5,181 seats, 2,527 are vacant even after second round of admissions

Even after the second round of admissions, 50 per cent seats of Masters in Engineering in the state remain vacant. According to the data shared by the Admissions Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC), of the 5,181 seats, 2,527 remain vacant whereas only 2,654 seats have been allotted. Experts believe that the number of vacant seats will increase after the students confirm their admissions.

"Many times, after allotment, students need to pay fees to confirm their admissions but not everyone does it. Hence, the number of vacant seats are likely to increase," an official said. Around 74 colleges offer admissions in Masters in Engineering on 5,181 seats through ACPC. Students can pay the fees till August 8 to confirm their admissions.

Interestingly, niche courses in engineering have barely caught students' interests. Textile Engineering in LD College had seven vacant seats, Thermal Engineering, Software Engineering and Information Technology courses had 12, 13 and 17 vacant seats, respectively.

The Department of Computer Science at Gujarat University had 18 seats vacant in the Web Technology course. MS University in Vadodara witnessed 12 vacant seats in Man-made Textile Engineering and seven vacant seats in Textile Engineering.

Masters in Pharmacy has also witnessed 50 per cent seats remaining vacant. Of the total 1,278 seats, 505 have been allotted whereas 773 have remained vacant.

While the undergraduate programme in pharmacy witnessed a good trend this year, masters in pharmacy has of vacant seats. Not a single seat remained vacant in diploma and degree courses. A total of 19,269 students had made it to the merit list for nearly 5,000 seats in diploma and degree courses, of which a total of 13,036 students filled out their choices.
