Thirty-three districts across Gujarat witnessed rainfall on Friday. Heavy rains might continue to lash the state for the next few days, the weatherman said.

Friday's rainfall could be the most widespread in the current season, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Figures released by Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) show that 223 out of 251 talukas received rainfall today.

The rainfall comes at a crucial time as dry weather for a few more days would have severely affected the standing crops. Several places including Ahmedabad, Kheda, Panchmahal, Gandhinagar received early morning heavy showers, officials said.

Kapadvanj taluka of Kheda received 150 mm (six inches) rainfall between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm; Godhra in Panchmahal received 122 mm (five inches) GSDMA said.

Sanand taluka in Ahmedabad, Kalol in Gandhinagar, Matar in Kheda, and Ahmedabad city received more than four-inch rainfall. Eighteen other talukas in different districts received between 3-4 inch rainfall, while 22 others received 2-3 inch.

Several places in north Gujarat, which the rains had eluded so far, also received medium to heavy rainfall today. These include places in Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Patan, and Mehsana, and east-central districts of Aravalli, Mahisagar, Dahod and Narmada. Light to medium rainfall was also received in several places of Saurashtra.

Incidentally, Kutch, which had received just 12% of the long period average rainfall so far, also received light to medium rainfall today. Five out of ten talukas in Kutch received between half and two-inch rain today.

The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rains across the state over the next three days due to a low-pressure area lying over the state.

According to GSDMA, the state had received 465 mm rainfall as of Thursday, which is 56% of the 30-year average of 831 mm. However, the figure would change significantly following today's rainfall.
