Irked by the unauthorised posters and advertisements defacing city walls, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Chief Mukesh Kumar on Thursday asked his team to launch a campaign to remove them. AMC teams will get cracking from next week to rip off all publicity material stuck on walls without prior permission from the civic body.

"People don't understand and value of street art and furniture," said Kumar, Municipal Commissioner, AMC. "The streets are property of the civic body and we will not allow anybody to access them for their business or any other purpose."

He said the civic body would rope in Estate Department officials and retired armymen to rip off unauthorised publicity messages on city walls. "Our team will remove all such illegal messages and posters posted/written or pasted on walls. We will take action against the culprits as defacement and damage of public property is a crime under Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage of Public Property and Section 268 of the Indian Penal Code," Kumar added.

Recently, the civic body had filed a police case against some people for graffiti in public toilets in new west zone. Similar graffiti were also found at a flyover near IIM cross roads.
