The controversial 60:40 formula of external and internal assessment in all undergrad and postgrad courses of Mumbai University would no longer exist.
It could be reduced to 75:25 or 70:30 from the next academic year for first year students.
A review committee headed by Pro Vice Chancellor Naresh Chandra has proposed to reduce the weightage of the internal assessment.
Madhu Nair, dean faculty of Commerce and a member of the review committee, said, “UGC rules recommend minimum 25% weightage to the internal exam. So we can’t have 80:20 formula as suggested by some stakeholders. So, we can have either 75:25 or 70:30 formula. The final decision can be taken by academic council.” The AC would meet in February end.
The 60:40 formula implemented since 2011-12 along with the credit based semester system ran into controversy as some colleges were reportedly giving inflated marks to their students in internals.
