Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections will be held on December 1, the State Election Commission (SEC) announced on Tuesday. Polls will be conducted through a ballot box. The results will be announced on December 4. The nomination of the candidates will be accepted from November 17. The nomination deadline is November 20, the SEC said.

The GHMC has 74,04,286 voters, including 38,56,770 male, 35,46,847 female and 669 voters in 'Others' category. The corporation has 150 wards, and polling will be held at 9,248 centers. The Election Commission had already announced the introduction of e-voting on a pilot basis for select voters in the wake of the coronavirus epidemic. In 150 polling stations, the Election Commission is also experimenting with facial recognition.

The nomination will be scrutinized on November 21. November 22 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations.

Meanwhile, the BJP quashed the State Election Commission's decision accusing it of being a 'puppet' in the hands of the Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao. The party alleged that the SEC announced voting dates that were "politically convenient" for the TRS party.

"The Election Commission is an independent institution and should function without any external interference. However, the Telangana State Election Commission follows the whims and craze of KCR and his party TRS. The BJP vehemently denies the way the SEC functions in Telangana. The announcement of politically convenient election dates for the TRS party has become a regular practice in the state. BJP's chief spokesperson K Krishna Sagar Rao, alleged.

The BJP said that they would complain to the Central Election Commission for 'questioning the SEC's functioning. Krishna Sagar said, "The current mode of functioning jeopardizes the democratic spirit and integrity of the election process."
