Huma Akram, the 42-year-old wife of former Pakistan cricket captain and fast bowler Wasim Akram, died in the private Apollo Hospitals here on Sunday at 9.30 am following multiple-organ failure. She leaves behind her husband and two sons.

Huma, a practising parental psychologist in Pakistan, was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday from an air ambulance at the Chennai airport after she suffered a heart attack. Huma was being airlifted to Singapore for treatment and the aircraft had stopped at Chennai airport for a scheduled refuelling. She was put on ventilator support and doctors had initially set a 72-hour deadline for her to show signs of improvement. Former Indian cricketers Kapil Dev and Ravi Shastri had called on the ailing Huma and met Akram at the hospital earlier in the week.
