Suspected gas blast at Turkey plant kills 3

An explosion thought to have been caused by a buildup of gas tore through a factory making generators, killing three workers and injuring at least 30 in the Turkish capital Ankara on Thursday, a local official said.                               

Two floors of the plant collapsed in the explosion, and some five people were believed to be trapped in the debris, news channels reported.  

Local mayor Fethi Yasar told television stations natural gas or oxygen canisters were believed to have caused the blast.                                           

Television images showed one side of the large four-storey building had been blown out, debris strewn on cars parked around the building, and emergency workers treating the injured and carrying them to ambulances.                     

Some 60 people worked at the plant, according to reports.
