SM Krishna writes to Qureshi, condoles deaths in Pak floods

The recent floods have submerged dozens of villages, killing over 1500 people even as rescue workers struggled to rush aid to the 3.2 million people hit by the worst deluge in in the country in eight decades.

External affairs minister SM Krishna has written to his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi condoling the deaths due to the widespread floods there and expressing his distress over the devastation caused by the calamity.

The recent floods have submerged dozens of villages, killing over 1500 people even as rescue workers struggled to rush aid to the 3.2 million people hit by the worst deluge in in the country in eight decades.

"The external affairs minister, in a letter to his Pakistani counterpart Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, has conveyed sincere condolences of the Government and the people of India, on loss of lives, due to the widespread floods in Pakistan," an official release said here today.

Krishna has also said he is distressed by the devastation caused by the natural calamity, it added.
