India and Pakistan were in a position to sign agreements "any day" to end their disputes on the Siachen glacier and Sir Creek, former Pakistani military dictator Pervez Musharraf has told NDTV in an exclusive interview.

The former Pakistan Army chief said the armed forces of both countries had conducted joint surveys in the two areas of dispute and everything had been sorted out. Only the formal signing of agreements remained.

Musharraf said the two countries were also close to an agreement on resolving the long-festering dispute over Jammu & Kashmir on the basis of his four-point formula, which included the idea of an open border between the two parts of the state. Drafts on these proposals were exchanged, but the deal could not be sealed as Musharraf was ousted from power. The Pakistan Peoples Party government that succeeded his regime has denied the existence of any such draft proposals.

The former military dictator, however, insisted that he did not regret the incursion into Kargil that was ordered by him when he was the army chief under Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, whom he called a brainless politician and a closet Talib.

He, however, regretted the way he handled his confrontation with the chief justice of the Pakistan Supreme Court, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, a clash of personalities that eventually cost Musharraf his popularity with the people.

Musharaff also said that people who don't take risks are no leaders.

The former Pak president also told NDTV that he has no definite timeline to go back to Pakistan, but he was definitely planning to go back.

On his statement that Pakistan had harboured militant groups planning attacks against India, Musharaff said groups like the Lashkar-e-Taiba(LeT) were fighting for the rights of Kashmiris.
