Pakistani police have arrested a man and two women on charges of cannibalism after finding the body of a woman that was disinterred from a grave in their house, media reports said today.

The trio was arrested in Kahawar Kalan village near Multan in Punjab province yesterday after police found the mutilated body in their house.

The matter came to light when the grave of 24-year-old Saira Perveen, who died on Saturday, was found desecrated by her brother a day after her burial.

After finding Parveen's body missing, her family reported the matter to police.

Inquiries by police revealed that a man, Arif alias Aphal, had been seen wandering in the graveyard on Saturday night with a hoe.

The police, along with some local residents, raided Arif's house and found him along with his sister and aunt.

On opening a locked room, police found Parveen's body, from which a leg and a foot had been removed.

In another room, police found the body parts being cooked.

Police seized a hoe, a knife and pieces of the woman's shroud from the house and arrested Arif, his sister and his aunt.

Arif, 35, told police that his brother Irfan alias Mapha had brought the body home after removing it from the grave.

He claimed his brother was missing since Sunday morning.

Arif also told police that his brother had earlier brought home the body of a little girl and they had cooked and eaten her flesh.

He said they had also been eating dogs.

Local residents confirmed to police that the body of a four-year old girl had gone missing from the graveyard sometime ago.

They said they had thought that some wild animal had dug it out from the grave.

Police officer Fakhar-uz-Zaman told the media that police had yet to lodge an FIR as Arif was claiming that he was innocent and his brother was the culprit.

The body was taken to a hospital for an autopsy.
