The South Pole charity trek involving Prince Harry and his fellow Walking With The Wounded expedition competitors has been suspended for safety reasons.

The 29-year-old royal started off on the trek with a team of injured UK servicemen and women against groups from the US and the Commonwealth.

On the charity website, Ed Parker, the expedition director wrote that they have had a tricky couple of days.

He said that the weather remains good but the terrain is difficult, and is much harder than they had anticipated and due to the various factors, he decided to suspend the race, Metro.co.uk reported.

Parker said that the reasons for suspending the race was entirely safety based.
