President Barack Obama has been found to be the first US politician ever to raise over a billion dollars in the course of his career

According to an analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics, his lifetime total hit has been found to be $1,017,892,305 in April, nine years after he began his 2004 race for Senate

According to the New York Daily News, the Center results found the president to have raised more than $217 million so far for this campaign, while his November opponent Mitt Romney has made just fewer than $100 million.

Both candidates' parties have also poured in heavy cash into the race scheduled for the Fall, which is expected to be the most expensive in the history.

To help fund his re-election bid, Obama has turned to a series of big-names to join him at fundraising events, the latest being Bill Clinton.

The Obama campaign announced on Tuesday that Obama and Clinton will co-host an event in New York next month.
