Mother of Baby 59 - the Chinese newborn who became a worldwide sensation after he was rescued from a toilet pipe – has said that she is deeply regretful of her act.

According to police, the mother, whose name has not released, is herself hospitalized with complications from her delivery and will not be charged with a crime, even though she didn’t admit that the child was hers until after he was rescued, the New York Daily News reported.

She reportedly told cops that she was answering call of the nature in the building’s communal bathroom when she went into labour and couldn’t hold the baby and he slid into the sewage through the hole of the toilet.

In a panic, she tried to pluck him out with a stick and then flushed the toilet to clear away all the blood.

She saw that firefighters struggle for 2 hours in the hopes of saving the baby, after they had been alerted by the residents who heard a baby cry through the 3-inch pipe.

Very little is known about her and local reports have said that she is a restaurant worker who claims that she got pregnant after getting involved in a one-night stand.
