Islamabad, Dec 3 (PTI) The Kashmir issue should be settled according to UN resolutions and the aspirations of Kashmiris to ensure peace in the region, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said today.

He made the remarks while addressing the budget session of the Council of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in Muzaffarabad.

Sharif contended that peace cannot be established in the region without settling the Kashmir issue. He expressed his determination to resolve the issue and said a solution would guarantee peace and prosperity in the region, state-run Radio Pakistan reported.

He said he had raised the Kashmir issue at all forums and also during a recent meeting with US President Barack Obama.

Sharif reiterated his government's support to the administration of PoK for achieving fast track development. He underlined the need to ensure transparency and accountability in executing developmental projects.

Muzaffarabad will be linked with Rawalpindi and Islamabad by a modern railway system, he said. Muzaffarabad will also be connected with Mirpur, the Northern Areas and major cities by a modern road network to boost economic activities and tourism.

Sharif asked the local administration to identify hydropower projects‚ enhance the tax net and encourage good government.

The Prime Minister, who was accompanied by Kashmir Affairs Minister Chaudhry Barjis Tahir, also met a delegation of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.
