International contributors have pledged to donate a sum of 5.6 billion dollars to rebuild Palestine post the Gaza war where much of the territory's infrastructure has been damaged.

The announcement came following a conference in Cairo where Norwegian Foreign Minister Boerge Brende declared the amount that exceeded the four billion dollar mark that the Palestinian Authority had asked for.

According to the BBC, Boerge said that half the sum would be dedicated to reconstruction in Gaza without specifying a use of the other half.

Qatar alone has promised a sum of one billion dollar while the United Arab Emirates and Turkey both committed 200 million dollars.

The United States assured it would donate 212 million dollars and the European Union pledged 568 million dollars at the conference.
