Fresh IED blast rocks Kabul after three explosions earlier in the week

After a bloody start to the week, Kabul experiences another IED explosion on Thursday.

According to TOLO News, a magnetic mine on a bicycle detonated in 5th Street Taimani, quoting Ministry of Interior spokesman Sediq Sediqqi. Initial reports confirm that three people have sustained injuries in the blast.

According to Reuters report, explosion went off as crowds gathered to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the death of Ahmad Shah Masoud, a leader of the fight against Soviet forces in the 1980s and an enemy of the Taliban in the 1990s.

The blast, which came at a time of heightened concern over tensions between ethnic groups in Afghanistan, was attributed to a small bomb attached to a bicycle, Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi said. 

No group has claimed the responsibility for the incident and target of the attack is still unconfirmed.

Twin blasts, executed by Taliban, rocked Kabul on September 5. 24 people died in the incident whereas 91 suffered injuries. Another blast on September 6 indicated the uptick in violence in the capital as the Taliban escalated nationwide attacks, underscoring the worsening security situation since NATO forces ended their combat mission at the end of 2014.
