Foreign Secretaries of India, Bangladesh hold talks

India and Bangladesh on Monday held talks on sub-regional and regional cooperation including in the area of security and connectivity as also took stock of progress made on implementation of decisions taken during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Dhaka in June last year.

During the talks, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar and his Bangladesh counterpart M Shahidul Haque discussed issues relating to security, water, power, energy, science and technology, connectivity and people-to-people contacts, official sources said.

Tweeting after the meeting, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson said "Building the partnership with another close neighbour. The Foreign Secretaries of India and Bangladesh hold talks."

"The two sides focused on reviewing developments since the Prime Minister s visit to Bangladesh in June 2015 so as to take stock of progress made on implementation of decisions taken during that visit," the sources said.

Apart from exchange of Instruments of Ratification of 1974 Land Boundary Agreement and its 2011 Protocol, a MoU was inked extending a New Line of Credit (LoC) of USD 2 billion by India to Bangladesh during Modi's visit. The visiting Bangladesh Foreign Secretary is expected to call on External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval during his two-day stay.
