US President Donald Trump’s recent tweet on US District Judge James Robart that said, “The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned!,” didn’t sit too well with Americans on Twitter.

Aside from opposition for the executive order, which targets immigrants from eight Muslim majority countries, Twitter also took offence to Trump brushing off a judicial decision.

Trump’s tweet was a response to the decision of the US judge to overturn his travel ban. The US President had also sworn that the court’s decision will be reversed.

The tweet insulting the judiciary faced massive trolling. “So-called judge, what the hell does that even mean?” Asked Erick Fernandez on Twitter, while Helen Kennedy added, Judge Robart was nominated by former president George W Bush and confirmed unanimously by the Republican-controlled Senate.”

Others even pointed out official court records listing Judge Robart, saying Trump’s “so-called” insult was ludicrous.

Still others are becoming increasingly anxious, as it’s unprecedented for a President to attempt to undermine an institution that was set into place to keep the White House and Congress in check.

Donald Trump’s administration has since appealed the federal judge’s order that blocked the ban.

The Department of Justice declined to comment on the appeal “beyond the filing at this time,” in an email to AFP. Trump has repeatedly said “extreme vetting” of refugees and immigrants is needed to prevent terrorist attacks. Eight hours later, he showed no signs of backing down when he tweeted “What is our country coming to when a judge can halt a Homeland Security travel ban and anyone, even with bad intentions, can come into US?”

“It’s hard for the President to demand that courts respect his inherent authority when he is disrespecting the inherent authority of the judiciary, said Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University. “That tends to poison the well for litigation.”

We’ve seen a president try to defy the judiciary before. His name was Richard Nixon. It didn’t end well for him.

Roland Scahill @rolandscahill
.@realDonaldTrump if you’re calling him a ‘so called judge’ I think the majority of this country can refer to you as a ‘so-called president’

This is the language of an unhinged abuser who has been caught in the act, not the way a legitimate head of state behaves.
