'Fake news' has been named as the Collins Dictionary's official Word of the Year for 2017.

The Collins Dictionary definition of 'Fake news' describes the term as "false, often sensational, information disseminated under the guise of news reporting."

The term which was dramatically popularised by US President Donald Trump had increased it's usage by 365% since 2016. Trump takes the credit for inventing the word. In his infamous Twitter rants, Trump has used the word mainly to criticize the media who speaks against him.
