A series of huge explosions rocked Kabul on Wednesday followed by gunshots, in the latest attacks on the Afghan capital.

According to reports, heavy clashes are going on between security forces and gunmen close to PD13 Police Headquarters in Dasht-e-Barchi area in Kabul City,

One blast took place near a police station. Whereas, another explosion happened in Qala-e-Fatullah area.

A suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance of the police station in central Kabul in an area near foreign embassies and government offices, an interior ministry official said.

Earlier this week, Taliban fighters seized a district in the northern province of Baghlan and kept up pressure on the central city of Ghazni as heavy fighting continued across Afghanistan following the start of the insurgents' annual spring offensive last month.

Dozens of people have been killed in suicide attacks in Kabul in recent weeks, including some 60 people at a voter registration centre and nine journalists in a blast on April 30.

The elections are seen as a key test of the government's credibility and require millions of voters to register at vulnerable election centres across the country.

In addition to the attack in Kabul, at least 17 people were killed by a blast at a mosque that housed a voter centre in the eastern province of Khost last week.
