Looks like we will be getting a 13th season of sitcom The Big Bang Theory after all. The series is already CBS's longest running comedy show, adding another season is on the cards if we are to believe CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl.

According to a report in Entertainment Weekly, Kahl told reporters that 'preliminary discussion' about renewing the sitcom for the 13th season has begun.

The show was already renewed for two more seasons to run through 2019 when the contracts were extended in 2017. Main cast members -- Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, and Kunal Nayyar -- stood by Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik when their pay was made equal to what others were getting.

Steve Holland, who is executive producer on the show, had earlier said that season 12 -- set to debut on September 24 -- would be the last one. "We’ve talked about if next season is the end where we would like to leave these characters, so we have some general plans. But we really haven’t sat down and done the nitty-gritty of talking about the specifics of what exactly needs to happen," he told the magazine.

Maybe this is why the news about 'preliminary discussion' came as a surprise to co-showrunner Bill Prady who had nothing but one word responses like 'huh' and 'Fascinating' to offer.

The last season ended with a brilliant cameo by Mark Hamill. Let's see where the next season picks up.
