Joel Kinnaman, Will Lee Yun, and Martha Higareda jump the hoops for Netflix series.
During the Consumer Electronics Show 2018, Altered Carbon made a big splash with their display. The sci-fi series starring Joel Kinnaman of House of Cards and Suicide Squad will be available for streaming on Netflix on February 2.
The streaming platform has been home to some brilliant science fiction shows like Black Mirror, Sense 8, and The OA among others. Now Altered Carbon is vying for a space in that illustrious list.
Altered Carbon is set in 300 years in the future where the society has been transformed by new technology that digitises consciousness. This makes human bodies interchangeable and death is no longer permanent.
The show released a featurette giving a look behind the scenes and on the practice mats where the cast learned the kick-ass action moves that make for a large chunk of the series.
Will Lee Yun, who shares the role of Takeshi Lev Kovacs with Joel Kinnaman, talks about his lifelong Tae Kwon Do training and his real father's history as the first person to bring Tae Kwon Do to the United States.

Here are the details of the main characters of the show based on the classic cyberpunk noir novel by Richard K. Morgan.
1. Joel Kinnaman stars as Takeshi Lev Kovacs
Kovacs is the protagonist of the series and a native of the planet Harlan's World. Kovacs is a former Envoy, a type of futuristic soldier, part intelligence operative and part shock trooper, trained to adapt quickly to new bodies and new environments. He is a Japanese and Eastern-European descent, and was a teenage gang member before enlisting in the military. After leaving the Envoy Corps, an elite military force, Kovacs returned to criminal life and became a mercenary, and was eventually imprisoned, his cortical "stack" stored without a body for decades at a time as punishment before being paroled or hired out to work high-risk situations.
2. Will Yun Lee plays the original "version" of Kovacs known as "Birth Kovacs."
This Kovacs' mind was imprisoned — on ice — for centuries until Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy), an extremely wealthy, long-lived man, offers Kovacs the chance to be survive if he solves Bancroft's murder
3. Martha Higareda, stars as Kristin Ortega,
Ortega is a smart and tough lieutenant in the Bay City PD who is following in the footsteps of her father, a cop who died heroically in the line of duty.
