LG V30+ vs Apple iPhone X vs Samsung Galaxy Note 8 vs Google Pixel 2 XL: Which one should you buy?

We take a quick look at how the Apple iPhone X, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Google Pixel 2 XL stalk up against LG’s new flagship smartphone.

LG launched its premium smartphone, the LG V30+ in India today at a price of Rs 44,990. It will be available exclusively from Amazon India. The main USP of the device is its ridiculous slim bezels, curved OLED display, which is named ‘FullVision display’ along with a top-of-the-line processor.

With such high-end specifications on a smartphone, three other options come to mind - Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Apple iPhone X and the Google Pixel 2 XL. We take a quick look at how these devices stalk up against LG’s new flagship smartphone:

Display

In 2017, smartphone makers focused on offering a display, which would cover the entire screen. While the LG V30+ and Google Pixel 2 XL offer a 6-inch display with a 1440x2880 pixels resolution, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 leads the pack with a 6.3-inch display along with a 1440x2960 pixels resolution. The Apple iPhone X comes in last as it sports a 5.8-inch display and an 1125x2436 pixels resolution.  

Processor, RAM and storage

The LG V30+ along with the Google Pixel 2 XL are both powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, paired with 4GB RAM. While Samsung and Apple focus on manufacturing their own chips – the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 packs in an Exynos 9 Octa 8895 processor paired with a whooping 6GB RAM and Apple chooses an A11 Bionic processor, coupled with a mere 3GB RAM.

In terms of storage, the LG V30+ offers an internal storage of 128GB while the three devices offer 64GB. In addition, LG’s new smartphone offers expandable storage of up to 200GB while Samsung offers expandable storage of up to 256GB. Pixel 2 XL and iPhone X do not include microSD card slots.

Camera

Over the years, smartphone makers have focused immensely to offer the “best camera” experience. The camera quality on each of these devices is superb but there are many ways in which they differ.

In terms of camera specifications on paper, the LG V30+ features a dual camera setup with a 16MP sensor along with a f/1.6 aperture and a 13MP sensor with a 120-degree wide-angle lens. Towards the front, the LG V30+ sports a 5MP wide-angle (90-degree lens) camera.

The Google Pixel 2 XL sports a 12.2MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture and optical and electronic image stabilization along with an 8MP front-facing camera. According to Google, DxOMark has given the new camera on Pixel 2 a score of 98.

The Apple iPhone X sports two 12MP cameras with dual Optical Image Stabilization abnd offers new colour filter, deeper pixels and also, an image signal processor. For selfies and video calling, the iPhone X packs in a 7MP front-facing camera.

And lastly, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 also has two 12MP cameras - one sports a wide-angle lens with dual pixel autofocus, f/1.7 aperture while the second features a telephoto having f/2.4 aperture and OIS. DxOMark gave the Galaxy Note 8 scored 94.

Battery

The LG V30+ and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 both pack in a 3300mAh battery while the Google Pixel 2 XL includes a 3520mAh battery and Apple, offers a 2716mAh battery on the iPhone X.
