mid the special events organized by the likes of Apple, Samsung and Huawei for the presentation of their high-end smartphones, the IFA in Berlin, Germany will once again provide a showcase for the latest innovations in a wide range of fields: smart watches and bracelets, televisions, wireless speakers, smart appliances and virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) peripherals.

One of the stars of the show is already known: the LG V30, which has already been partially unveiled online by its South Korean manufacturer. The smartphone, which is notably equipped with an edge-to-edge OLED display, and dual rear cameras, will be officially presented at the IFA.

For its part, Sony will come under the spotlight with its Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact, the brand's latest high-end offering which Sony is hoping will somehow stand out from the competition. A lot more discreet, HTC may unveil its U11 Life, a mid-range smartphone, and BlackBerry might exhibit a limited edition of its KeyOne.

Notwithstanding all of the media attention they attract, smartphones will, however, only account for small percentage of the innovations expected at the venue. In the field of smart devices, Samsung is expected to take advantage of the show to lift the veil on its new generation of watches (Gear S4) as well as a new activity tracker (Gear Fit2 Pro), and it might even present a new virtual reality headset. Although it will not be unveiling its new flagship phablet, the Mate 10, which is to be presented at a specific conference later this fall, Huawei is unlikely to turn up empty handed.

In the field of PCs, Acer, Asus and Lenovo are expected to announce new machines, and in the world of televisions, the two South Korean giants, Samsung and LG, will, as usual, be there with a dazzling array of new ranges and prototypes. In 2016, the IFA attracted 250,000 visitors.
