Google will launch its mobile payment service, Tez, in India today. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will launch the UPI-based digital payment service in the national capital, the Finance Ministry confirmed in a tweet.

Tez, meaning fast in Hindi, will include support for the government-backed Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and other consumer payment services including Paytm and MobiKwik. It will also support banks such as HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and others. With UPI, one does not need to enter details such as NFSC code or other related bank account details and makes it easy to send money via a virtual address.

The app supports eight Indian languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Gujarati, Telugu, Kannada and Marathi. The company has introduced some launch offers for the Tez app as well.

How it works

1. You can download the app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App store.

2. Once downloaded, select a language of your choice. Enter your contact number, which is linked to your bank account.

3. Also, select a Google account where you would like to receive notifications and verifications. Once done, select your desired bank and enter the bank account details.

You can pay or receive money from anyone who has the Tez App or any other UPI supported app by selecting them from your contacts list or by entering their UPI ID. You can also use Cash Mode to securely send money to people nearby without sharing private details like your phone number.

Those users who invite their friends to the app will get Rs 51, only if the friend makes a payment with the app. This offer is valid till 1, April, 2018, and the limit is Rs 9000 per year respectively. Users can also get Tez Scratch Cards (TM) in the app and be eligible to win up to Rs 1,000 with each eligible transaction.
