Internet giant Google on Friday introduced “wheelchair accessible” routes on Maps for the differently abled persons.

At first, the new Google feature would be rolled out to major metropolitan cities globally including London, New York, Tokyo, Mexico City, Boston, and Sydney.

“We’re looking forward to working with additional transit agencies in the coming months to bring more wheelchair accessible routes to Google Maps,” Rio Akasaka, Product Manager, Google Maps, said in a blog post on Friday.

Here's your step wise guide to use the Google map's new feature:

1. At first enter your destination in the google maps

2. After you have entered your destination, now select “Directions” then choose the public transportation icon.

3. Following by which, select. "Options" and under the Routes section, and you can see “wheelchair accessible” as a new route type.

Google Maps will then show you a list of possible routes that can be taken accordingly.

“We built this feature to make life easier for people who use wheelchairs, but accessible routes are also helpful if you’re on crutches or pushing a stroller. With the help of transit agencies around the globe and people like you who contribute local knowledge, we’re making progress toward a more accessible world for everyone,” Google said in its blog post.

In 2017, Google Maps added the feature to see if a space is accessible by wheelchair under the “amenities” tab.

"Last September, Local Guides from around the world gathered at 200 global meet-ups to answer accessibility questions—like whether a place has a step-free entrance or an accessible restroom—for more than 12 million places. Additionally, we’ve been busy capturing and updating Street View imagery of transit stations and city centers so people can preview a place or transit station ahead of time", Google said.
