The 2018-19 Premier League season kicked off on Friday, August 11.
Liverpool hit four goals to begin their Premier League campaign against West Ham United at Anfield on Sunday. The Reds went top and laid down an early marker in the burgeoning title race on the same day champions Manchester City won 2-0 at Arsenal. Southampton and Burnley battled to a goalless draw at St. Mary's Stadium.
On Saturday, Chelsea were easy winners by 3-0 away to one of the relegation favourites Huddersfield Town. Tottenham Hotspur, runners-up two years ago and third last time, won 2-1 at Newcastle United. Cardiff City lost 2-0 at Bournemouth while Fulham were beaten at home by London rivals Crystal Palace. Wolverhampton Wanderers were the only one of the promoted trio to score a goal or earn a point, drawing 2-2 at home to Everton.
The opening act on Friday was Manchester United's 2-1 victory at home to Leicester.
